"My grandmother could tell you when to plant by the smell of the wind, and when to harvest by the taste of a single grape. She'd never read a book on farming. She said the land had already taught her." — a satyr vintner of Aetheria
Satyrs are fae. Long ago, the fairies made them to tend the land around the Aether Fonts, growing the groves and orchards that drew on the aether there. When the fairies retreated into hiding after the War of the First Races, the satyrs carried that gift out into the world. They have an instinct for soil, season and harvest that few can match, and a love of music and revelry that comes from the same old fae roots.
Names
Satyrs carry fae names like their centaur kin: a personal name and an earned name their family became known by, often for a crop, a craft or a song. Examples:
- Fennick Bramblewine, of a family known for its vineyards
- Lysandro Pipersong, of a family known for its musicians
- Orrin Mossreed, of a family known for its river orchards
Satyrs by Homeland
Aetheria
In Aetheria, satyrs are agricultural experts, and many serve as senators. They make up about 4 to 5% of the people. Many honour Durath, the Spirit of growth and harvest, who is depicted as a satyr.
Sylvaris
In Sylvaris, satyrs revere the Riverwardens as river guardians.
