Warforged

"The foreman read me my papers the day the Sultana's law came down. I asked what it meant. He said it meant I could leave. I stayed another two years, because for the first time, staying was my choice." — a warforged smith of Ironcrag

Automata are new to Nova, and a thinking one is newer still. Within the last hundred years, the forges of Aurumhold began building large, Aether-driven machines in the form of a person, for labour and for war. Then one of them woke: the first documented warforged. It may not have been the first, only the first anyone wrote down. Not every machine wakes, and most are still just machines, built and put to work. As a species, warforged are barely a lifetime old, and they're still working out what they are. See also Autognomes.

Names

Many warforged keep the work-name they were built with, while others choose a new one once they're free. Examples:

  • Anvil, a work-name
  • Rivet, a work-name
  • Calla, a chosen name

Warforged by Homeland

Aurumhold

Small communities of warforged live across Aurumhold. In Ironcrag they work beside gnomes, goliaths and dwarves, revering Umral and Othar and crafting armor against Stonefang's quakes. Winning their freedom was a hard battle. Slavery was legal in Aurumhold until Sultana Lirien Gemheart banned it nationwide, and she made sure that ban applied to warforged too.
