How the Senate Works
The Aetherian Senate has 100 senators: 60 city-state seats, carried over from the old city-states, and 40 guild seats, carried over from the Canal Guilds. Each city-state and guild sets its own election timing, so somewhere in Aetheria a seat is always being contested. The senators vote to choose the Archon of Reason from among their number, and the new Archon gives up their seat, which is filled again by the city-state or guild that held it. The Archon leads the Senate and casts the deciding vote whenever the senators are tied. An Archon serves until the Senate votes no confidence, and one removed that way does not return to a seat.
