"They look at my scales and see the Cult. I look at my scales and see the dragons who made us and then threw us at a war. Neither of us chose this. Only one of us is blamed for it." — a dragonborn Dawnblade at Haven's Light
The Dragons made the dragonborn in their own image, to rebuild their numbers after the first species fell, and many dragonborn have spent every generation since trying to prove they are more than their makers' weapons. They are proud, disciplined and fiercely bound to their clans, and they carry the shadow of the Ouroboros Cult wherever they go. Some still serve the Cult, but far more have turned their strength against it.
Names
A dragonborn carries a virtue name, chosen at birth as a hope for who the child will become, followed by their clan name. In formal speech the clan name comes first. Many dragonborn feel they must live up to their name, and one who fails it badly may give it up and take a new one once they have earned it back.
Examples include Valor Ashkar, Mercy Thressin, Resolve Kordath and Honor Vyrex. Formally, Valor of Clan Ashkar is addressed as Ashkar Valor.
Dragonborn by Homeland
Ezogashima
In Ezogashima, dragonborn are second-class citizens under the Lesser Blood Laws of the Shogunate, barred from owning land, carrying katanas or holding office, and pressed into work as labourers, stable hands and front-line fodder. Their resentment is real, and it is exactly what the Cult preys on.
Aurumhold
Small, respected communities in Aurumhold, especially around Sandspire, judge a dragonborn by their craft and coin, not their blood.
Tidegate
In Tidegate, many dragonborn serve as Dawnblade marines, holding dawn vigils at Haven's Light in Solara's name, proud to be seen as Tidegate's defenders.
